Orthopedic care

Orthopedists are doctors who take care of the entire musculoskeletal system. They diagnose and treat conditions such sprains, strains, broken bones, arthritis and osteoporosis. Some of the treatments they offer include recommending lifestyle changes, applying casts and performing surgeries, such as ligament repairs or total joint replacements.

Complete joint care

When your joints are healthy, moving around is easy and pain-free. But when your joints become diseased or injured, they can cause serious pain. We want you to live pain-free with healthy joints, which is why our orthopedic specialists offer expert treatment for all types of joint conditions.

Arthritis treatment

The term arthritis translates to inflammation of the joint, but it’s used to refer to multiple rheumatic diseases — disorders affecting the muscles, tendons, ligaments or joints.

Arthritis occurs in various forms, including bacterial arthritis, osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis. It may result from infection, trauma, degenerative changes, metabolic disturbances or other causes.

Our experienced orthopedic specialists work with you to evaluate your condition and develop an individualized treatment that relieves your pain and restores your quality of life. Depending on your diagnosis, treatment options for arthritis and rheumatic diseases may include:

  • Devices that help with fine motor skills
  • Dietary changes
  • Exercise
  • Heat and cold therapies
  • Joint care instruction
  • Mobilization therapy
  • Pain relievers and other medications
  • Rest and relaxation
  • Splints or braces
  • Surgery
  • Water therapy
  • Weight reduction

Joint replacement surgery

Often, joint pain can become severe enough to warrant joint replacement surgery. Joint replacement surgery offers advanced solutions to joint pain, either through total or partial replacement of the joint. By removing the diseased or damaged joint and replacing it with an artificial one, you can regain pain-free movement.

We offer the following joint replacement procedures:

Our hospital was the first in Southwest Virginia to use new technology that offers personalized surgery for shoulder replacements. A software tool allows surgeons to understand your unique anatomy before surgery and customize the surgical plan using simulated bone and implants. This preserves as much bone as possible, which gives you better outcomes.

Orthopedic physical therapy

A key part of our orthopedic program is physical therapy and rehabilitation. We offer rehabilitative care on both an inpatient and outpatient basis. Our therapists develop treatment plans tailored to your needs. Our goal is to help you regain your independence and mobility and improve your quality of life.
