Recognized heart attack and stroke care
The ER at LewisGale Medical Center is recognized as an Accredited Chest Pain Center by the American College of Cardiology and as a Primary Stroke Center by The Joint Commission, in collaboration with the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association. These recognitions note our exceptional ability to effectively diagnose and treat heart attack and stroke and deliver the best possible outcomes to our patients.
Top reasons to go to the ER
Along with heart attack and stroke, our highly trained emergency specialists are available 24/7 to treat injuries and conditions such as:
- Bite from an animal or potentially dangerous bug/spider
- Major trauma or head injuries
- Open fractures
- Respiratory distress
- Severe abdominal pain
- Uncontrolled bleeding from a cut or wound
If you're not sure if your condition or injury requires a trip to the ER, you can call our free, 24/7 Consult-A-Nurse line.
Non-life-threatening emergencies (FastTrack ER)
As part of HCA Virginia's emergency care program, we are pleased to offer a FastTrack ER as an extension of our main ER. It is designed to care for anyone 2 years old and older with medical conditions that are not emergencies but require treatment within 24 hours.
Our FastTrack ER is open from 11am - 11pm. If the FastTrack ER is closed, you will be assisted through the main ER.
Using advanced communication technology to save lives
As part of our commitment to patient-focused care, we were the first hospital system in Southwest Virginia to use a new real-time, cloud-based new communication network and mobile app technology connecting our hospital with emergency medical services (EMS) in the field.
This system enables ER physicians to diagnose a life-threatening event (such as a stroke, heart attack, shock or sepsis) before the patient even arrives at the hospital. It also enables us to activate the appropriate healthcare team to begin administering immediate, lifesaving care as soon as the patient arrives, further increasing the odds of a successful recovery.
