Our oncology program
We strive to provide you with advanced cancer care and compassionate support in a location that's close to home. Our team is here to support you however we can during your cancer journey.
Should you need additional care or even highly specialized cancer treatment, we are part of HCA Virginia's oncology network. This means we can help you find high-quality specialty care close to where you live or work.
Diagnostic imaging and laboratory testing
Proper diagnosis is the first step toward healing. We use the latest diagnostic imaging tools to locate cancerous cells and tumors and create an effective treatment plan. Services include mammograms, ultrasounds and computerized tomography (CT) scans.
We also offer inpatient and outpatient diagnostic laboratory testing, such as blood tests and biopsies, as well as genetic screenings for hereditary cancers.
Cancer treatment services
We offer the Greater Blacksburg community access to a number of cancer care services.
Our cancer care program includes an outpatient center where patients receive chemotherapy treatment. Chemotherapy is a type of treatment that uses cancer-fighting drugs to kill cancerous cells or slow the growth of them.
We also provide biological therapy and other infusion services at our outpatient center.
Surgery is an effective cancer treatment and is often used to surgically remove cancer. If surgical care is part of your treatment plan, our team will be with you every step of the way.
Our hospital is equipped with seven operating rooms, two endoscopy suites and one specialized procedure room.
Minimally invasive surgery
We can often use minimally invasive surgical techniques, including robotic surgery, for cancer-related procedures. During minimally invasive robot-assisted procedures, the surgeon uses robotic technology to make very small incisions and precise surgical movements. This leads to many benefits for our patients, such as reduced postoperative pain, a faster recovery and less scarring.
Coming to our outpatient cancer center
The outpatient center is located on the main floor of our hospital. Patients can park in the lot at the front of the main hospital entrance.
Our outpatient center begins seeing patients at 6:00am daily and remains open until the last patient is sent home.
