Emergency care
Emergency care is the treatment of unexpected, severe medical injuries or infections. It is typically delivered in an emergency room or an ambulance. Our emergency medicine physicians stabilize your condition as quickly as possible to prepare you for the next step of care or discharge.

Features of our emergency department
Because our ultimate goal is combining excellent healthcare with rapid response, we make every effort to use the latest frontline advances to bring effective care even before you, your family or those closest to you arrive at our center.
FastTrack ER
Our FastTrack ER is designed to provide expedited medical care for patients coming to the ER who do not have a life-threatening condition, but still require immediate medical care. This is an ideal option for patients with less serious illnesses or injuries, such as flu-like symptoms or minor injuries and infections.
The FastTrack ER is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Use our ER entrance and check-in for our FastTrack ER services.
Emergency care before you arrive
The key to excellence in emergency medicine is efficiency. We were the first hospital system in Southwest Virginia to use a new real-time, cloud-based communication network and mobile app technology that connects our hospital with emergency medical services (EMS) in the field.
This technology allows our emergency specialists to diagnose a life-threatening event (such as a stroke, heart attack or shock) before a patient even gets to the ER. It also enables our staff to activate the appropriate healthcare team to begin administering immediate, lifesaving care as soon as the patient arrives, further increasing the odds of a successful recovery.
Trauma care
Our hospital has received designation as a state-recognized Level III Trauma Center. This means we've met stringent state standards in our ability to care for some of the most critically injured patients.
Accredited heart and stroke care
Our hospital has earned recognition as an Accredited Chest Pain Center by the American College of Cardiology and as an Acute Stroke Ready Hospital by the The Joint Commission, in collaboration with the American Heart Association and American Stroke Association.
These recognitions are tremendous honors. They are also testaments to our ability to meet and exceed strict standards of care to support the best possible outcomes for our patients.
Getting to our emergency room
When visiting our emergency department, look for the marked emergency entrance. You can park for free in the lot right outside of our ER. You will then walk through the emergency entrance and enter your information in the kiosk by the door.
After you visit the kiosk, our staff will direct your next steps for receiving emergency care.
If you or someone close to you is experiencing a medical emergency, call 911 immediately.

This technology allows our emergency specialists to diagnose a life-threatening event (such as a stroke, heart attack, shock or sepsis) before you even get to the ER. It also enables our staff to activate the appropriate healthcare team to begin administering immediate, lifesaving care as soon as you arrive. This helps make your recovery more successful.
