Our GI services

Also, our patients have direct access to HCA Virginia's gastrointestinal program and the wide network of gastrointestinal specialists and full spectrum of advanced treatments that comes along with being part of that health system.

Endoscopy

Our surgical facility has two dedicated endoscopy suites where physicians visually examine upper GI issues, as well as treat some conditions such as polyps. An upper endoscopy is an outpatient procedure that is used to diagnose or treat a variety of symptoms, including stomach or abdominal pain, vomiting, ulcers and others.

Robot-assisted GI surgery for GERD

We specialize in the treatment of severe acid reflux and GERD using our cutting-edge robotic surgery. In robotic procedures, a surgeon is always in control and performs the surgery through very small incisions, resulting in less blood loss, reduced scarring and a faster recovery.

During this innovative GERD surgery, the surgeon accesses your esophagus laparoscopically and places an FDA-approved, quarter-sized flexible band of magnetic titanium beads around the lower esophagus just above the stomach. The beads are connected by titanium wires which open to allow food and liquid to easily pass through when swallowing and then close to prevent stomach contents from moving up and causing the reflux symptoms.

This is an outpatient procedure and the patient can resume normal eating habits that same day.
