Trauma Survivors Day: Henrico Doctors' Hospital spotlight

After surviving a head-on collision almost five months ago, William (Will) Woodworth, 33, is working toward returning to the place he enjoys most – the outdoors.

Last December, Will’s truck collided with another vehicle on a country road in Hanover County. Due to the force of the accident, Will was trapped inside his vehicle, which started to catch fire. Unexpectedly, two good Samaritans came upon the accident and pulled Will out of his truck, just before it was engulfed in flames.

Will was taken via ambulance to HCA Virginia Henrico Doctors’ Hospital where he was admitted to the intensive care unit. He suffered injuries to his spleen and liver, in addition to lung contusions, facial lacerations, and a fractured femur. He underwent procedures to stop internal bleeding and mend his leg.

Will’s mother, Teri, said she is grateful for “the excellent care provided by the staff at Henrico Doctors’ Hospital.”

Just two days after the accident, Will began to get out of bed with physical and occupational therapy using a walker. Today, he continues to work with physical therapy in order to strengthen his leg muscles and improve his balance. Will said he is looking forward to returning to what he loves – being an avid outdoorsman.

Will and his family extend their gratitude to everyone who saved his life that morning, as well as the doctors, nurses, and therapists who cared for him at Henrico Doctors’ Hospital.

Henrico Doctors’ Hospital is a Level II Trauma Center and is the highest level trauma center in Henrico County.
