Samuel Powell
Samuel Powell, RN, was born and raised in Panama. He grew up with two powerful influences shaping his future: a father who served in the Army and a strong cultural belief in helping others. His journey to the U.S. at 17 marked a turning point, as he transitioned from dreams of joining the military to an unwavering commitment to becoming a nurse. Fluent in both English and Spanish, his heritage and experiences gave him a unique perspective on life and care.
The spark for his career ignited when he was just 14, during a visit to Georgia to see his aunt, a retired nurse practitioner. He spent countless hours at the hospital where she worked, captivated by her interactions with patients and colleagues. Her respect, kindness, and compassion left an indelible mark on him, solidifying his desire to follow in her footsteps.
Now a nurse at StoneSprings Hospital on the Med./Surg. unit, he finds immense fulfillment in his role. His passion lies in helping patients, educating them about their health, and seeking collaborative solutions with the support of his dedicated team. The values instilled by his parents—to help others whenever possible — guide him daily. For him, nursing is not just a job; it's a duty to make a positive impact on people's lives.
One particular caregiving experience remains close to his heart. He recalls a young patient with liver problems caused by drinking issues. Taking the time to sit and talk with the patient, he spent nearly 45 minutes educating and listening, hoping to inspire change. While he may never know the outcome, he carries the belief that nurses are at the frontline of care, striving to help patients find the strength to improve their lives.
At StoneSprings Hospital, he feels supported in his growth. From training programs for new graduates to resources that enhance knowledge, the environment fosters both learning and teamwork.
Outside of work, he cherishes time with family and friends, enjoys traveling, and finds joy in playing soccer. His journey is one of purpose, compassion, and the unwavering belief that helping others is both a privilege and a responsibility.
