Before Anika Kalluri, 18, headed off to William & Mary, she spent her summer creating five pieces of original art for John Randolph Medical Center. She has a personal attachment to the facility because her father, orthopedic surgeon Prakasam Kalluri, spends his days on the joint and spine floor.

“I have been going with him to work with since I was little,” Kalluri said. “My brother and I know a lot of the nurses and the people he works with. It’s really special to me that my art will be there.”

Kalluri said she used the view from John Randolph’s rooftop as inspiration, where she’s watched fireworks with her family, and created nature scenes to make a peaceful environment for the hospital rooms. She is considering double majoring in biology and art.

“We are proud to showcase Anika’s art, especially in the area of the hospital that has a personal connection to her father,” said Joe Mazzo, chief executive officer of John Randolph Medical Center. “Art can have positive effects on patient wellbeing, which is another example of our commitment to the care and improvement of human life here at John Randolph.”
