Reston, VA — Reston Hospital Center, which is part of HCA Virginia, has announced the expansion of their Reston Cancer Care Services by establishing an inpatient unit in the main hospital, effective December 20, 2024.

The eight new inpatient rooms are dedicated to providing high-quality, compassionate care for patients undergoing cancer treatment and reflect HCA Virginia’s commitment to meeting the needs of its growing communities.

“This new space is the first step in our plans to expand our oncology service line,” said Laura-Anne Cleveland, chief nursing officer at Reston Hospital Center. “Our goal is to continuously evolve and align our resources to provide the highest level of clinical care, support and expertise that patients and providers have come to expect at Reston Hospital Center.”

In this unit, patients will have access to personalized care from a team that includes specialty trained nurses devoted to cancer care. Navigators, social workers and nursing staff will work closely with the rehabilitation, physical therapy, imaging, and pharmacy teams as part of a multi-disciplinary, collaborative approach to provide the best care to patients during their inpatient treatment.

The Reston Cancer Care Services inpatient unit is phase one in the expansion plan for Reston Hospital Center’s oncology program. Next phases will include cancer research and the development of a CAR-T (cancer immunotherapy treatment) program. Patients with cancer will continue to benefit from Reston Hospital Center’s existing oncology services, including radiation therapy, outpatient infusion, the Women’s Imaging Center, the Medical Imaging Center, and comprehensive cancer support services like oncology navigation, oncology social work, support groups, physical and occupational therapy, and nutrition support.

“We look forward to making Reston Cancer Care Services a sought-after location for excellence in comprehensive cancer treatment,” said Becki Lawhorne, associate chief nursing officer at Reston Hospital Center. “Our future growth plans for the cancer program highlight how HCA Virginia and Reston Hospital Center understand the care our community needs and work tirelessly to meet those needs.”

Reston Hospital Center’s Oncology Program is accredited by the Commission on Cancer, National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers and the American College of Radiology.
