LewisGale Hospital Montgomery celebrates completion of new Christiansburg ER
The new freestanding emergency room serves patients 24/7 and is a welcome addition to the community.
LewisGale Hospital Montgomery, part of the HCA Healthcare network, has opened a new freestanding emergency room. Starting today, the LewisGale Hospital Montgomery Christiansburg ER, a 10,000-square-foot facility, will serve the community with board-certified emergency room physicians and nurses 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
The freestanding emergency room is the third of its kind in southwest Virginia, following Cave Spring ER and Blue Hills ER in the Roanoke Valley. Located at 1145 West Main St. in Christiansburg, the facility will provide the same services available in a traditional emergency room housed within the walls of a hospital. More than 30 colleagues from the local community will work here.
“In an emergency situation, minutes matter in relation to patient outcomes,” said Chris Smith, MD, emergency department medical director. “Christiansburg ER offers unparalleled medical care in a convenient location. This can help save lives and enhance patient recovery.”
Designed with patients in mind, the new ER features walk-in and ambulance entrances with 11 patient rooms, including a fully equipped trauma bay. It has advanced imaging equipment for CT scans and X-ray imaging. The ER also features onsite laboratory testing and is directly linked to LewisGale Hospital Montgomery as a fully integrated department of the hospital. No appointment is necessary to be seen.
“Christiansburg is a growing community, and we are thrilled to invest $14 million to give patients in this part of the New River Valley another access point to high quality healthcare," said Lauren Dudley, LewisGale Hospital Montgomery chief executive officer. “We’re located just off Interstate 81 and are equipped to serve its tens of thousands of daily travelers, along with the growing community around us.”
