If a patient is dealing with an acute orthopedic injury or chronic condition, we often start with physical therapy to help him or her gain mobility and strengthen the affected muscles. Examples of physical therapy include therapeutic exercises for the injured area as well as heat, ice, ultrasound, or electrical stimulation therapies.
Physical therapy is usually included as an important part of a patient's treatment plan to help the recovery process after orthopedic surgery.

Preparing for orthopedic surgery
Before surgery, follow any specific instructions you receive. We recommend that you make plans to have somebody drive you home from surgery and stay with you for 24 hours. Don't hesitate to call our surgery department if you have additional questions about what to expect during or after your procedure.
Getting to the surgery center
Orthopedic surgery is offered as part of the surgery department at LewisGale Hospital Pulaski. Once you arrive at the hospital, park in the designated Ambulatory Care Services (ACS) parking lot. This is located between the ER and the cancer center. After you walk through the ACS doors, you will see signs to guide you to outpatient surgery.
Our hours are Monday through Friday from 7:00am - 3:00pm, and our surgical procedures are by referral only.
