Mental health services in Richmond, Virginia

Asking for help is often the hardest when you really need it.

A sister campus of Henrico Doctors' Hospital, Retreat Doctors' Hospital specializes in mental health and wellness. The specialists at our Center for Emotional Growth have the training, education and compassion to help you find peace and healing.

Mental health conditions we treat

Our inpatient mental health and wellness program is designed to help you if you're struggling with:

  • Anger issues
  • Anxiety
  • Bipolar disorder
  • Major depression
  • Mood disorder
  • Self-injurious behavior
  • Trauma, including sexual trauma
  • Other mental illnesses

Our mental health programs

We use evidence-based therapy that leads to positive outcomes. Our care teams create your individualized plan based on a holistic view of mental health that includes your social support network.

Our inpatient services

We provide short-term, intensive mental health treatment if you or someone you love is in crisis. Our team uses an interdisciplinary and therapeutic approach for both voluntary and involuntary patients 18 years old and older.

Your inpatient plan will include:

  • Active psychiatric care with 24-hour access to a psychiatrist
  • Medication administration, if clinically necessary
  • Fostering positive outcomes for the individual through communication with family and support systems
  • Medical management of physical health, as needed, based on medical assessments
  • Group therapies
  • Discharge care plan
  • Community resources to ensure your long-term well-being

We also offer a variety of group and individual services, including relaxation techniques, acute symptoms management, safety management and activity therapies.

Direct admission

Our facility has 20 single-occupant rooms, three different group rooms and a consult room. Our admission process makes it easier for your provider to refer you so you can start treatment in our programs right away.

Once a member of our behavioral health assessment team confirms a patient is medically clear, stopping in the emergency room may not be necessary. A COVID-19 testing requirement will be discussed upon inquiry.

Your multidisciplinary care team

Your care will be provided by our team of psychiatrists, registered nurses, case management personnel, activities therapists and mental health technicians. Together, we will ensure you get the high-quality care you need and deserve.
