HCA Virginia Health System earns top quality ranking
Nine hospitals throughout the state are recognized with 5 and 4 stars by the Center for Medicaid and Medicare Services.
Richmond, VA — Nine HCA Virginia Health System hospitals were awarded top rankings – either 5 or 4 stars – from the Center for Medicaid and Medicare Services (CMS). This national distinction recognizes the hospitals’ performance across five quality categories.
Henrico Doctors’ Hospital, Parham Doctors’ Hospital, and Retreat Doctors’ Hospital in Richmond were the only hospitals in HCA Healthcare Capital Division to earn the top 5-star ranking.
The following hospitals earned the 4-star ranking:
- Chippenham Hospital
- Johnston-Willis Hospital
- LewisGale Hospital – Alleghany
- LewisGale Hospital – Montgomery
- Reston Hospital Center
- TriCities Hospital
“We are so proud of our HCA Virginia Health System hospitals that are leading healthcare in terms of quality,” said Elizabeth Mikula, HCA Healthcare Capital Division vice president of quality. “Only 3-4% of hospitals nationwide are 5 stars and roughly 10% are 4 stars. Our high rankings are directly related to our colleagues and the world-class care they provide our patients every day.”
CMS assigns star ratings to U.S. hospitals annually based on 46 hospital quality measures. These are divided into five quality categories: safety of care, mortality, patient experience, readmission rates, and timely and effective care.
Data reporting periods range from July 2018 to March 2022, depending on the measure.
