Specifically, if you are treated within an hour of your incident — referred to as the "golden hour" — your chances of survival increase. That is why our specially trained physicians, surgeons and medical professionals are prepared to provide you the critical attention you need 24/7.

Trauma services

Our Level I Trauma Center provides a higher level of care for the most critically injured patients.

Some of the services we provide include:

  • A comprehensive team of trauma-trained and board-certified surgeons across varying specialties
  • Prompt assessment, resuscitation, advanced surgery, intensive care and stabilization for critically injured patients
  • A helipad for quick transport from an accident to the trauma center or another medical center, if necessary
  • A comprehensive program to regularly review our care standards based on national standards published by the American College of Surgeons and the American College of Emergency Physician
  • A program to evaluate quality and provide ongoing staff education to ensure we continue to provide high-quality care to the community

Chippenham’s Level I Trauma Center services

  • A comprehensive team of trauma-trained specialists across varying specialties
  • A medical flight team and medical air medical helicopter (Air Care Eagle) on site with the ability to be in the air within 10 minutes of a call and a travel distance radius of 100 nautical miles
  • A provisional level I burn center that provides both adult and pediatric wound care
  • Four fully-equipped trauma bays
  • Prompt assessment, resuscitation, surgery, intensive care, and stabilization for critically injured patients
  • An ambulance bay that will accommodate up to 20 ambulances at a time
  • Four fully-equipped trauma bays
  • Dual helipads for quick transport from an accident to the trauma center or to another medical center, if necessary
  • A comprehensive program to regularly review of our care standards based on national standards published by the American College of Surgeons and the American College of Emergency Physicians
  • A program to evaluate quality and provide ongoing staff education to ensure we continue to provide high-quality care to the community
  • Trauma education and prevention outreach to local communities

When Chippenham Hospital is notified that we are receiving a patient in our trauma center, our comprehensive team of trauma-trained specialists is assembled to care for our patients the instant they arrive. Those specialists may include:
