If you have been in an accident or experienced serious injury or trauma, we provide intensive therapy to help you recover functioning and regain independence.
Acute care therapy is provided to you in your hospital room or in a rehabilitation setting within the hospital following a surgery, medical emergency or other health condition requiring hospitalization. Our goal is to get you up and moving so that you spend less time in the hospital and transition more quickly to the next step in your recovery.
If you've had joint replacement or have arthritis, chronic pain or neuromuscular disease, you may benefit from aquatic therapy in one of our heated therapy pools or whirlpool spas.
Cardiac rehabilitation is a program that helps people who have had heart attacks, heart surgery or other cardiac conditions return to regular activities, while reducing the risk of further heart problems.
We offer driving assessment and education for those with disability from injury or illness, teenagers needing to comply with the Department of Motor Vehicle (DMV) regulations and older adults in need of a driving performance assessment. Our driving program evaluates driving skills and teaches new ones to help you drive safely and capably.

Free Community Education on Driving

Contact us about our free driving education programs focusing on the needs of elderly drivers and people with disabilities. We offer this service for community organizations, including churches, schools and civic groups. Our team provides evaluation and instruction in both clinical and actual driving settings. On-road evaluation and instruction allows participants to practice on a driving range as well as in rural, suburban and highway settings. Participants learn to handle a variety of scenarios including:

Our Driving Assessment and Education Program is licensed and approved by the Virginia Departments of Motor Vehicles and Education, and we provide services as a vendor for the Virginia Department of Rehabilitative Services. Each of our driving instructors is licensed by the Department of Commerce.

Hand, elbow, and shoulder injuries – such as fractures, carpal tunnel syndrome, arthritis and tendinitis – require specialized treatment. Our hand therapists are experts in hand and upper extremity rehabilitation that improves motion and dexterity.
Industrial rehabilitation offers work retraining and conditioning designed to get you back on the job as quickly as possible. We emphasize early medical intervention, objective documentation and timely communication with your employer.
If you have lymphedema, our certified therapists evaluate your condition and use a variety of therapeutic techniques to control swelling and develop long-term management strategies. Read about our lymphedema services.
Neurological rehabilitation is used for stroke survivors and individuals with spinal cord injuries, multiple sclerosis, Parkinson's disease, brain injuries, balance disorders and other neurological conditions. Licensed therapists help with balance and gait training, general mobility, strength and endurance training, instruction in home exercise, use of orthotics and prosthetics, equipment evaluations and fall prevention. We also provide home safety assessments and consult with in-house orthopedic therapists when needed.
One-on-one therapy from our highly experienced team of occupational therapists and nurses helps you function in your daily life. Our medical professionals will work with you to regain the highest possible level of functioning while preventing complications or additional loss of ability.
We help patients with arthritis, neck, back or joint pain, spinal fusions, myofascial pain, soft tissue sprains or strains, shoulder impingement and capsulitis syndromes, and individuals recovering from orthopedic surgery. Treatment includes soft tissue and joint mobilization, a full range of therapies and a customized exercise plan for each patient. We also consult with in-house neurological therapists when needed.
Our experienced team of physical therapists provides help to restore function, improve mobility and relieve pain following surgery, illness or injury. One-on-one treatments are provided through hands-on therapeutic techniques, exercise instruction and education. Our PT services include orthopedic PT and neurological PT.
Pulmonary rehabilitation helps with chronic bronchitis, emphysema, asthma and other significant lung problems. We provide breathing retraining, nutrition guidelines and medication management, and teach you how to conserve energy and control infection.
Recreational therapy is provided if you participate in recreational activities, such as sports or music, and need help improving functioning and well-being in those activities.
HCA Virginia’s speech-language pathologists diagnose, treat and help prevent disorders related to speech, language, cognitive communication, voice and swallowing. Our highly experienced speech-language pathologists are certified by the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) and treat patients of all ages.
Our full-service sports medicine programs are designed to help you meet your athletic health goals through a full spectrum of evaluation and assessment resources, including strength training, conditioning, aquatic therapy, ultrasound technology, an outdoor assessment field and comprehensive physical therapy services. HCA Virginia also offers physician referrals and free injury screenings conducted by certified athletic trainers through our community education programs.
Physical therapists care for wounds by evaluating and determining wound type, cleaning, removing tissue during debridement, applying dressings, applying compression when appropriate and providing education. HCA Virginia offers comprehensive wound healing services.
