HCA Virginia’s pediatric intensive care units (PICUs) (only at Chippenham Hospital and Henrico Doctors’ Hospital) enable us to give critically ill children, or children requiring close observation, the specialized care they require. Our team of highly-skilled doctors, called pediatric intensivists, supervises the care of your child when they are in the PICU.

Preregister for your child’s stay now to save time when you check in.

Keeping you informed

We understand the importance of keeping you and your child’s regular pediatrician informed, and we make it a priority to communicate about your child's progress and treatment. Additionally, if your child needs a consultation with another specialist, such as a cardiologist, our pediatric team will arrange the consultation and coordinate care. When needed, we can offer pediatric critical care transport.

Keeping you with your child

We know you want to remain with your child as much as possible, especially when a hospital visit is required. We strongly encourage family visitation to help your child feel at ease and focus on recovery. However, visitation by others outside of the family may be limited based on the unit your child is in or the care she or he is receiving. Your pediatric nurse will review visiting hours and guidelines with you when you arrive at the PICU. Our first priority is always a safe and quick recovery for your child, so check with your pediatric intensivist or pediatric nurse if you have any questions about your child’s visitation guidelines.
