At HCA Virginia, our neurology staff works exclusively with brain and nervous system conditions. Our neurosurgeons perform all types of neurosurgeries and customize a care program specifically for you. Regardless of the variety of specialists or services you need, we offer all your care in one place within our coordinated network of comprehensive hospitals.
Intraoperative magnetic resonance imaging (iMRI) suite
To assist in removal of brain tumors and deliver effective treatment for other neurological conditions, HCA Virginia established the intraoperative magnetic resonance imaging (iMRI) suite at HCA Virginia's Henrico Doctors' Hospital in Richmond. That puts us among just 20 hospitals in the United States to invest in this advanced surgical technology for your care.
We provide care from diagnosis and treatment to education, disease management and rehabilitation. Although there is no limit to the neurological conditions and disorders that we diagnose and treat, we specialize in:
Trigeminal neuralgia often goes undiagnosed or misdiagnosed. HCA Virginia offers multiple treatment options for trigeminal neuralgia, including glycerol injection, Gamma Knife surgery and microvascular decompression.
HCA Virginia's hospitals are equipped to perform both awake and asleep deep brain stimulation (DBS) for a variety of brain and nervous system conditions and movement disorders, such as Parkinson's disease, essential tremor and dystonia.
Interventional neuroradiology uses minimally invasive imaging technologies and procedures to diagnose and treat diseases of the head, neck and spine. Our board-certified interventional neuroradiologists have the additional training, knowledge, skill and extensive practice to safely carry out delicate neurological procedures and deliver better surgical outcomes. HCA Virginia has one neuro endovascular radiologist and one neuro endovascular neurosurgeon in residence at Johnston-Willis Hospital. No one else in the Richmond market offers neuro endovascular procedures for stroke care.
Our neuro endovascular radiologists or neuro endovascular neurosurgeons perform the following treatments: AVM, tumor emolization and clot retrieval.
To be board-certified in Neuroradiology, a radiologist must have special advanced training in the understanding and visualization of brain and spinal cord conditions and abnormalities on CT, MRI and X-ray.
Neurosurgery is a delicate procedure performed by expert teams using advanced tools, such as intraoperative magnetic resonance imaging (iMRI) and stereotactic navigational systems, to precisely locate and treat or remove targets inside the brain or spinal cord. Our neurosurgeons work in exclusive neuroscience surgical suites to address previously inoperable conditions and perform life-saving procedures with radiosurgery tools such as the Gamma Knife.
Spine surgery may be neurological or orthopedic in nature, which is why HCA Virginia has neurosurgeons and orthopedic surgeons who are spine specialists. They perform specialized spine surgeries and procedures, including pediatric spine surgery, spinal fusion, microdiscectomy, artificial cervical disc spinal surgery, kyphoplasty/vertebroplasty and digital biplane angiography.
