Richard L Binns, MDGeneral Surgery
Dr. Binns joined Surgical Associates of Richmond in 1989, and is a prior Chief of Surgery at Johnston-Willis Hospital. He has served on numerous hospital committees, and performs a full range of general and vascular surgeries, with special interests in Carotid Artery Disease, Aneurysms, Thyroid and Parathyroid diseases and conditions.
At the University of Virginia School of Medicine, Dr. Binns was given the Lange Award for Academic Excellence and inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society. As a Resident in General Surgery at UVA, Dr. Binns received the Hugh Skip Warren Resident Teaching Award, and went on to Emory University Hospital in Atlanta, Georgia, where he completed a two-year vascular surgery fellowship involving both basic vascular research and patient care of complex vascular disease. During the fellowship he was given the President’s Award for his research topic from the Southern Association for Vascular Surgery. He is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons and an active member of the Society for Vascular Surgery.
Dr. Binns is board certified in the specialties of General Surgery and Vascular Surgery.
Outside the hospital, Dr. Binns and his wife Judy enjoy visiting with their children and grandchildren. He still finds time for his passion: furniture and cabinetmaking.
