Elizabeth Barrett, MDBariatric Surgery
Dr. Barrett attended the College of William and Mary in Williamsburg, Virginia, from which she graduated Magna Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Science in Psychology. She then earned her medical degree from Virginia Commonwealth University’s School of Medicine, in Richmond, Virginia, where she also completed her internship and residency in General Surgery at VCU Medical Center. Dr. Barrett further honed her skills in advanced laparoscopic procedures and comprehensive care of bariatric surgical patients during her fellowship training in minimally invasive and bariatric surgery at Eastern Virginia Medical School.
Prior to joining HCA and Advanced Surgical Partners of Virginia, Dr. Barrett practiced in the Hampton Roads area of Virginia. She helped launch the Bon Secours Hampton Roads health system bariatric surgery program and was instrumental in its growth to becoming the first choice of patients and providers in the metro area, leading in both quality and patient satisfaction.
Dr. Barrett has received many awards and distinctions during her education and career, including the MCV Arnold P. Gold Humanism and Excellence in Teaching Award in 2006, the Medical College of Virginia Resident Teaching Award in 2007 and 2008, and the Coastal Virginia Magazine Most Compassionate Doctor Award in 2011. During her time at Eastern Virginia Medical School, she was a Clinical Instructor for both the Family Practice Residency and Physician Assistant programs. Dr. Barrett also served as an Adjunct Clinical Professor of Surgery at Liberty University from 2016-2018.
Dr. Barrett is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons. She is a member of the American Medical Association, American Women Surgeons and the American Society of Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery (ASMBS). Dr. Barrett lives in Richmond with her family.
