A dream job for childbirth educator

To describe her as an ambassador and one of our friendliest and most compassionate colleagues at StoneSprings Hospital Center is an understatement. In a previous role as a surgical scrub tech, Christina Remaley (Chrissy) assisted many physicians with cesarean deliveries, all the while making sure mom and baby were well taken care of before and after delivery. This role which led to her interest in becoming a childbirth educator and earning a childbirth educator certificate, enabled Chrissy to combine her two passions for nursing and teaching. 

Having been raised by a school teacher and a nurse, Chrissy understands the importance of providing education and compassion care during one of life’s greatest moments.  “As an educator, I am able to give pregnant women and their partners information and strategies about managing labor pain together,” said Chrissy.  “Additionally, educating them on the medical interventions available helps provide an understanding of the entire birthing process,” she said. 

Many expectant women and their partners go into childbirth without having any education, and their fear can be overwhelming.  According to Chrissy, childbirth education helps manage the fear of the unknown.  “I love it when I see a patient after they deliver, and they tell me how my class helped them have an amazing experience,” said Chrissy. 

Colleagues in StoneSprings Hospital’s labor and delivery unit share a common goal:  to provide top notch care!  “Our philosophy is to support and provide our moms with a natural birth if desired with the option of medical interventions in the event of an emergency,” said Chrissy.  

“The most rewarding experience as a childbirth educator, is when I know I have made a difference in a women’s labor and delivery experience, and she and her partner feel well prepared throughout the entire process,” she said. “Loving what you do is never a job, and I absolutely love what I do ,” said Chrissy.
