The Oliver Family
HCA Virginia unites the Oliver family.
Henrico Doctors’ Hospital is a family workplace to Jeannie, William, Emily, and Will Oliver. For the past 16 years, Jeannie has worked as a kidney transplant nurse practitioner and clinic manager, and said her children grew up in the hospital. She met her husband, William, while working at Chippenham Hospital in 2000, and he, too, works at Henrico Doctors’ in interventional radiology.
“It’s been a family workplace,” Jeannie said. “My kids grew up here. I would bring them to the hospital and they would make rounds with me. It’s only natural that they pursued medicine here at Forest.”
Both children volunteered for four summers during middle and high school, and their time in the hospital inspired them to pursue careers in the medical field.
Emily, 19, is a patient care technician in Henrico Doctor’s progressive surgical unit, and said her plan is to become a physician’s assistant or nurse practitioner in the women’s unit.
“I want to work in our women’s hospital because I used to volunteer in the NICU and mother/baby unit,” she said. “But right now, I’m learning the ropes. It’s nice being on the PSU unit because my mom’s transplant patients are there a lot more than any other unit.”
Will, 18, is currently in an EMS program and hopes to become an employee at Henrico, too, Emily said.
“With all the hard work we both do, it’s nice to be able to do it with your family,” Jeannie said. “HCA brought us together.”
