Donna Wilson
Henrico Doctors' nurse navigator earns statewide award.
Donna Moore Wilson is a high-risk breast nurse navigator with the Sarah Cannon Cancer Institute at Henrico Doctors’ Hospital. She is also a co-founder and current chair of the Virginia Cancer Patient Navigator Network, which provides education, best practices, and networking to oncology navigators across Virginia.
Her 23 years of experience in oncology led her to earning a statewide achievement award from the Virginia Breast Cancer Foundation. The 2022 Sherry Kohlenberg Achievement in Healthcare Award, which is named for a VBCF cofounder who passed away from breast cancer in 1993, recognizes a healthcare provider who “exhibits a deep and abiding commitment to end breast cancer” and goes above and beyond what is normally expected of a competent, caring professional working with breast cancer patients.
“I am honored to receive this achievement award from VBCF,” Wilson said. “I love what I do – looking for barriers and educating patients so they can get the best treatment possible. At the high-risk breast clinic, we are always looking at best practices that will provide the best possible outcome for our patients.”
At Henrico Doctors’ Hospital, Wilson is part of a care team that includes medical oncologists and genetic counselors who are there for patients during every step of their journey. Her award honors her efforts along with other leaders in Virginia who are making a difference in the lives of those impacted by the disease.
