Fredericksburg, VA (Oct. 1, 2019) - Spotsylvania Regional Medical Center has officially opened its Obstetrics (OB) Emergency Department, a separate triage and care space that allows for a dedicated, specialized staff to be available for women who are expecting and in need of emergent care. With the opening of the OB Emergency Department, the hospital also launched its OB Hospitalist program that ensures that specialty trained physicians are on site 24/7.
"Our primary concern in emergent situations is to provide the best care possible to our patients as efficiently as possible" said Kim Jarrelle R.N., chief nursing officer of Spotsylvania Regional Medical Center. "For a pregnant women that means providing the specialized experience of an obstetrician no matter the day or time."
To enhance their current maternal care and emergency department services, Spotsylvania Regional Medical Center has partnered with OB Hospitalist Group, LLC, a nationwide specialist in the development, staffing, and management of hospital-based OB/GYN practices. The board-certified OB physicians of the OB Hospitalist Group will provide 24/7 in-house coverage at the hospital. These physicians are focused solely on caring for patients in the hospital, rather than those in an outpatient setting. They work closely with the patient's primary OB/GYN to enhance the coordination of care and improve patient safety during the emergent situation.
"This is truly an exciting time," said David McKnight, chief executive officer of Spotsylvania Regional Medical Center. "This partnership allows us to continue to raise the bar on top quality care in our community."
Pregnant women who need emergent care can access the OB Emergency Department through the hospital's existing Emergency Department. OB medical emergencies are assessed and taken to the OB triage area to receive care from the onsite OB Hospitalists.
