Reston Hospital Center announced today that it is a recipient of the Healthgrades 2020 Labor and Delivery Excellence Award™ and the 2020 Obstetrics and Gynecology Excellence Award™ for the fourth consecutive year.
The Labor and Delivery Excellence Award distinction places Reston Hospital Center in the top five percent of all hospitals evaluated and recognizes the exceptional care of mothers during and after labor and delivery, according to Healthgrades, the leading resource that connects consumers, physicians, and health systems.

To help consumers evaluate and compare hospital performance in labor and delivery, Healthgrades analyzed patient outcomes data for virtually every hospital in each of the 16 states that provide all-payer state data from 2016 through 2018. Healthgrades found that the variation in hospital performance makes a significant difference in terms of clinical outcomes:
- From 2016 through 2018, if all hospitals included in the analysis performed similarly to those that received the Healthgrades Labor and Delivery Excellence Award, complications with 124,867 patients with could have potentially been avoided *.
- From 2016 through 2018, patients treated in hospitals receiving the Healthgrades Labor and Delivery Excellence Award had, on average, a 40 percent lower risk of experiencing a complication while in the hospital than if they were treated in hospitals that did not receive the award*.
The Obstetrics and Gynecology Excellence Award achievement recognizes Reston Hospital Center for exceptional care of mothers during and after labor and delivery, as well as care of women undergoing gynecologic procedures.

Healthgrades analyzed patient outcomes data for all patients from 16 states for years 2016 through 2018. During this time, if all hospitals in the analysis performed similarly to those that received the Healthgrades 2020 Obstetrics and Gynecology Excellence Award, complications with 141,823 patients with could have potentially been avoided.*
Additionally, from 2016 through 2018, patients treated in hospitals receiving the Healthgrades Obstetrics and Gynecology Excellence Award had, on average, a 34 percent lower risk of experiencing a complication while in the hospital than if they were treated in hospitals that did not receive the Obstetrics and Gynecology Excellence Award*.
