RICHMOND, VA. (Sept. 28, 2022) — One in eight women in the U.S. will develop breast cancer, and the best way to detect this form of cancer early is to have an annual mammogram. HCA Virginia Health System hospitals have created an online scheduling tool to make it easier for patients to schedule their annual mammography appointment.
October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, a reminder that women should educate themselves about breast health and schedule their annual breast cancer screening now using this new tool.
“We know that annual mammograms save lives, and early detection is key to successful breast cancer treatment,” said Shaila Menees, senior vice president of strategy and business development for HCA Healthcare’s Capital Division. “This new online scheduling tool allows patients the freedom to make an appointment on their own time, 24 hours a day. It is another way we are trying to make it easier for patients to take control of their healthcare decisions and complete critical tests needed to ensure wellness.”
HCA Virginia offers the latest innovations in screening technology including 3D mammograms, which can also be scheduled through the online screening tool. A 3D mammogram consists of multiple breast images taken in just seconds to produce a 3D image that a radiologist can scan one layer at a time to look for potential tumors. The fine details of the breast tissue are more visible in the 3D images, making it easier to detect a tumor early.
Patients can visit hcavirginia.com/onlinemammo to learn more about the process or schedule an appointment at one of our HCA Virginia Health System imaging facilities.
