Wound Care Centers

The HCA Virginia wound care centers at Retreat Doctors' Hospital and Chippenham Hospital are nationally recognized for successfully treating wounds that don't heal with standard care. Our doctors and researchers work with you and your doctor to evaluate your condition and create an individualized treatment plan that uses the most advanced approach to wound care.

Our wound center team

The doctors at HCA Virginia have extensive experience in wound care and vascular and plastic surgery. Our specialists work with experts from other healthcare disciplines, who collaborate on your behalf to customize your treatment. You benefit from the combined expertise of surgical and infectious disease specialists, endocrinologists, nurses, home health providers, diabetic counselors, social workers and rehabilitation therapists.

Our wound center services

HCA Virginia’s wound care centers treat a wide range of chronic, recurrent, non-healing and acute wounds, including pressure, arterial, venous leg and diabetic foot ulcers; complications from radiation or surgery; bone or tissue infections; gangrene and burns.

HCA Virginia’s burn program experts are available around the clock and include highly experienced doctors, nurses, nutrition experts and rehabilitation and physical therapists.

You should go directly to the hospital emergency room if you require immediate care. If not, we offer outpatient burn care, reconstructive surgery for scarring, rehabilitation and physical therapy, scar management and compression therapy and functional assessments.

HCA Virginia’s hospitals were the first in Central Virginia to offer hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT), one of the most advanced treatment options available for healing wounds. This typically outpatient treatment involves breathing pure oxygen for about two hours in a sealed, pressurized environment to help push oxygen into your blood plasma. HBOT stimulates blood vessel growth in damaged tissues and is effective in fighting some types of infection.

Contact us to schedule a consultation and see if HBOT is right for you. You will be provided instructions and information about HBOT before your first treatment. You will need to inform the staff about any medications you are taking and be sure to ask if you have questions.

Doctors at HCA Virginia’s hospitals are at the forefront of research into new and better ways of treating chronic or recurrent wounds. From improved diagnostic techniques to personalized therapeutic approaches, we are advancing the science and practice of wound care in ways that benefit patients around the world.

For more information on our current clinical research studies, contact us at (804) 228-6732 or (804) 254-5440.

Most wound care treatments, including HBOT, are covered by Medicare and third-party payers and do not require a referral. If you're uncertain about whether your insurance will cover your wound care, we can help you find out.
