Palliative and Complex Care

HCA Virginia’s hospitals near Richmond provide palliative care services to improve pain, symptoms or stress during acute or long-term illness or treatment. Palliative care can be provided at any stage of an illness or treatment for health conditions associated with cancer; cardiac, respiratory or Alzheimer’s disease; kidney failure; AIDS, or diseases such as amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) or multiple sclerosis (MS). Our palliative care team works in conjunction with your primary care treatment to improve how you feel and your overall quality of life.

Palliative care can take place in a hospital, long-term care facility or at home. At HCA Virginia, we offer inpatient palliative care consultations at several in-patient locations. When you leave the hospital, our palliative care team will help you make a successful transition to your home, hospice or the next level of care.

Our patient-centered team of specially trained doctors, nurses, social workers and counselors works closely with you and your family to improve your symptoms. We provide solutions for many symptoms, including pain, shortness of breath, nausea and vomiting, fatigue, difficulty sleeping, constipation and behavioral conditions.

Most insurance plans, including Medicare and Medicaid, cover palliative care. If costs concern you, a social worker or financial consultant from HCA Virginia can help you explore options.

Speak with your primary care physician or attending doctor to determine if palliative care is right for you.
