HCA Virginia's cardiac catheterization labs are equipped with the latest monitoring and imaging equipment and staffed by experienced cardiovascular teams who perform thousands of procedures each year. We offer a full range of catheterization services for accurately diagnosing and treating cardiac conditions 24 hours a day. Both our inpatient and outpatient catheterization labs use the most advanced technology for catheterizations, allowing for extreme precision in catheter and stent placement.

At HCA Virginia, we use a full range of advanced diagnostic tools and the latest technologies to pinpoint the extent and cause of the problem – quickly and accurately. We apply this level of care to all our diagnostic services, emphasizing the importance of early detection. Some techniques and technologies we use are:

  • Electrocardiogram (EKG)
  • Echocardiogram (ECHO)
  • Calcium scoring
  • Cardiac catheterization and angiogram
  • Cardiovascular magnetic resonance imaging (MRI)

We offer convenient options for outpatient cardiovascular treatment, including Coumadin centers (to help manage your Coumadin, or warfarin, medication) and cardiac rehabilitation , as well as many outpatient and educational lifestyle services at the Levinson Heart Institute and The Heart Center.

We also offer enhanced external counterpulsation (EECP), an innovative outpatient treatment that can help with symptoms caused by chronic angina, heart failure and coronary artery disease. Currently, EECP is available at HCA Virginia’s John Randolph Medical Center.

Our surgeons continue to lead the field in the area of minimally invasive cardiac surgical procedures , including video-assisted thoracic surgery (VATS) and laparoscopic surgery, allowing patients to recover much sooner and with less pain and scarring. Some of the surgical treatments we offer include:

  • Minimally invasive valve or heart surgery
  • Transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR)
  • Mitral valve replacement
  • Coronary artery bypass graft (CABG)
  • Subcutaneous ICD (S-ICD)
  • Cox maze procedure
  • Convergent maze procedure
  • Transmyocardial revascularization (TMR)
  • Ventricular assist device (VAD)

If you have a cardiac event, such as a heart attack, stenting, heart surgery or stable angina, your doctor may recommend cardiac rehabilitation to help you recover and return to your daily life. Our cardiac rehabilitation program and dedicated staff will support you and your family as you adjust to life after your cardiac event. You may also benefit from cardiac rehabilitation if you have high blood pressure, high cholesterol or lifestyle-related conditions such as obesity or high stress levels.

Most insurance carriers cover the costs of our cardiac rehabilitation services, but a doctor’s referral is required to begin.

HCA Virginia participates in a number of ongoing cardiovascular research projects and clinical trials through the Sarah Cannon Research Institute. If you qualify, these projects offer you access to new treatments before they're widely available, along with the opportunity to contribute to medical research that can help yourself and others.
