Technology Highlights & Programs
Innovative technology in addition to outstanding medical expertise is a powerful combination in patient care at HCA Virginia Hospitals. We take full advantage of advanced technology to provide our caregivers with the tools they need to diagnose and treat even the most complex medical conditions.
- PACS - Picture Archiving & Communication System- PACS is a virtual radiology department that allows image scans, X-rays, and reports to be made available electronically and immediately on PACS workstations in the emergency department, operating room, patient floors and physician offices. Offered at most HCA Virginia Hospitals
- Gamma Knife - We have one of only three Gamma Knife Centers operating in Virginia. It focuses beams of cobalt radiation on a single point to treat brain tumors and other neurological disorders such as trigeminal neuralgia, with minimal damage to healthy surrounding tissue. CJW Medical-Johnston Willis campus
- da Vinci Minimally Invasive Robotic Surgery - This computer-assisted, minimally invasive robotic system is used to perform numerous procedures like closed chest heart bypass, prostate removal (prostatectomy), hysterectomy, vasectomy reversal among others. Henrico Doctors' Hospital
- Siemens Trio 3T MRI Scanner - This Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) machine is 2-4 times stronger than the 1.5 MRI, the more commonly used MRI machine today. With a magnetic strength of 3 Tesla or 3T this new machine is the most powerful MRI currently available to patients. The Siemens Trio 3T MRI scanner not only produces much clearer pictures, but also allows the technologist to scan multiple areas of the patients body without moving the patient, shortening the time required to be inside the machine from an average of 30 to 45 minutes to under 25 minutes for each exam. Henrico Doctors' Hospital
- 4D Ultrasound - A powerful new ultrasound tool is giving expectant parents and physicians a way to better assess the health of their baby in the womb.
- SkySTAT - A state-of-the-art air medical transport system that provides safe, reliable inter-facility transportation for time-sensitive patients from outlying areas who need advanced healthcare services. Central and Southwest HCA Hospitals.
- PET/CT Mobile Scanning Units - Until now, physicians had to view the results of PET and CT scans separately. The PET/CT scanner does both at the same time, resulting in one single diagnostic image. Two of our HCA Virginia areas have purchased mobile PET/CT units that rotate among area hospitals. Central and Southwest HCA Hospitals.
- The 64-slice LightSpeed VCT - Non-invasively captures images of any organ in a second, scans a whole body in less than 10 and captures heart and coronary images in fewer than five heartbeats, something no other CT system offers. The top-quality images combine into a three-dimensional view of the patient's anatomy. CJW Medical Center- Johnston Willis campus, Henrico Doctors' Hospital-Forest Campus, Reston Hospital Center, John Randolph Medical Center
- Selective Laser Trabeculoplasty (SLT) - This is an advanced laser system that targets only specific cells of the eye, allowing focused treatment for specific cells, leaving surrounding tissue in tact. As a result, your body's own healing response helps lower eye pressure. This is one of greatest advances in the surgical treatment of intraocular pressure (IOP) in open-angle glaucoma patients and a tremendous improvement over previous laser treatments. Reston Hospital Center
- BRAVO pH Testing System - To diagnose gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) The world's only catheter-free, patient-friendly pH monitoring system for adults and children is a miniature pH-monitoring capsule (the size of a gel cap) that is temporarily attached to the esophagus. pH data is transmitted to a pager-sized receiver worn by the patient. It allows patients to continue normal activities and diet without the embarrassment or discomfort of the pH nasal catheter. Reston Hospital Center
- The GE Innova® 3100 all-digital cardiovascular and interventional imaging system - This technology is helping physicians clearly see the blood vessels and anatomy of the heart, as well as blood vessels throughout the entire body - all the way to the fingertips, the smallest, finest vessels. The system allows doctors to perform both cardiac and vascular exams on patients using a single system. Montgomery Regional Hospital
- IMRT (Intensity Modulated Radiation Therapy) - An innovative treatment for cancer, IMRT delivers a high dose of radiation with pinpoint accuracy, less damage to adjacent structures, fewer side effects, and a better chance for recovery. Lewis-Gale Medical Center
- HDR (High Dose Rate) Brachytherapy - Following surgical removal of a tumor, the surrounding tissue is the most likely area to develop cancerous growths. HDR Brachytherapy delivers an irradiation source directly to the tissue while minimizing the radiation exposure to the rest of the body. Lewis-Gale Medical Center
- Prime ECG® - An 80-lead body surface mapping system that can diagnose a pending heart attack and other heart problems when life-saving treatment can be more effective. Lewis-Gale Medical Center
