Community Support

Community Support at HCA Virginia

Whether it's a volunteer EMS squad or a free clinic, a program to feed the hungry or a church group that protects battered spouses, there is a long list of noteworthy community organizations in the commonwealth that lend a helping hand to those in need.

At HCA Virginia, we applaud those efforts and want to do our part. Our ongoing community support includes donating funds to nonprofit organizations -- nearly $1.3 million in 2007. We also encourage our employees to volunteer their time and talents to outreach programs, and we take very seriously our obligation to treat all patients regardless of their ability to pay. In these ways and others, our facilities and employees reach beyond our four walls in an attempt to enrich the lives of our friends and neighbors and fellow Virginians.

In 2008, HCA Virginia:

  • made capital investments of more than $1.5 billion in the state
  • provided $103 million in free charitable care to low-income, uninsured patients
  • paid over $28 million in state taxes that funded important local, regional and state services
  • employed more than 13,500 individuals with a payroll of more than $646 million
  • operated more than 2,900 licensed beds
